This simple exercise will strengthen your legs and improve your balance. As we get older, many of us tend to lose our sense of balance. However, with a little practice we can improve our balance.
Doorway Exercise
- Stand in a doorway with the door open.
- Reach out with both arms and hold onto the doorframe.
- Stand up tall, be strong on your right leg (your knee can be a little bent), tighten your butt muscles by lifting them upward and lift your left foot off the ground.
- Count to 5.
- Each day try to add on 5 seconds.
- Switch legs.
Progress in four ways
- Bring your foot up higher.
- Hold for up to 3 minutes.
- Use only 1 hand for balance.
- Use no hands for balance.
