The quadriceps femoris muscle is a muscle of the thigh, which almost completely covers the femur. It ranks among the strongest muscles in the human body. The quadriceps plays a key role in every movement involving the stretching of the knee (e.g. walking, climbing stairs, rising from the sitting position).

– If you’ve done the Quadriceps Femoris Strengthener of the Month, you’ll also want to stretch those muscles out.

Exercise

quadriceps stretch 140.png How to do this:

  • Stand in between two chairs of the same height. The first chair should have the back facing you, and the second chair’s seat should be facing you.
  • Place the top of your foot on the chair behind you.
  • Now lean so that your hands are on the chair in front of you, giving you stability.
  • You will feel a pull in your thigh when you pull your pelvis up and forward.
  • Hold this stretch for 30 seconds and then switch legs.

If you are more flexible, you can do the stretch without the chairs by
reaching around and grasping your ankle. Try to keep your knees as close
together as possible and stand tall.
